2050 BCE-Middle Kingdom begins

Middle Kingdom- Egyptian time period that falls in between the "Old and New Kingdoms"; Called the "Golden Years" in Egypt
Tribute- forced payment to a more powerful group; It made Egypt rich
Valley of the Kings-On the west bank of the Nile River; Tombs were built here for Pharaohs during the Middle Kingdom
Hyksos- This group of outsiders conquered Egypt bring the Middle Kingdom to an end in 1670 BCE
Ahmose- He drove the Hyksos out of Egypt out of Egypt in 1550 BCE; Starting the New Kingdom
Hatsheput- First female Pharoah; led Egypt as a regent and then became Pharaoh after her nephew died
Regenta- person who rules a kingdom during the reign of a child, absence, or disability of the leader.
Thutmose III- The nephew of Hatsheput; He became pharoah after her death.
Amenhotep IV- Husband of Nefertiti; Created a new religion with only one god named Aton; Egypt lost much during his rule
Tutankhamen or "King Tut"- Son-in-law of Amenhotep IV; Ruled at the age of 10; His tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in AD 1922
Ramses II- Most successful Pharaoh during the New Kingdom
1150 BCE- In this year Egyptians lost there empire.

(What happened to EGYPT during the middle and new kingdoms?)
A number 0f different things happened to Egypt during this time. For instance, in 2,300 BCE, the pharoahs no longer had control over egypt. However, about 200 years later they gained new leaders which established stability. In this period, the Egyptians took over new land on which they built more waterways and dams. In addition to this, they also made a canal between the Nile and Red Sea. Around the time that the middle kingdom was coming to an end, they Egyptians were facing serious threats from outsiders. These people were called Hyksos. The new kingdom began at 1550 and is most known for it's ruler Ahmose. Then in about 1473BCE a women named Hatshepsut came to rule in Egypt. At first she ruled along side of her husband, but after he died, she became the head ruler over her nephew. After this, Egypt mostly grew richer and prospered. They were stronger than they had ever beeen.

Problem: Akenaton neglected his duties as Pharoah and as a result, Egypt lost most of it's land in western Asia.
Solution: When people learn to realize the importance of their position and obligations, they will have a strong facility.
