The First Israelites

After the Israelites were enslaved and God sent the 10 plagues to Egypt(to force the pharoah to let them go), they decided that it was time to leave. In about 1290 BCE, a man named Moses heard a voice in a burning bush to which he belived was God telling him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt to Canaan. Canaan or "The Promised Land" was a place where Abraham had previously taken his family because God told him to. As Moses was leading the Israelites to Canaan, he went to the top of Mount Sinai where he recieved the 10 commandments from God. These commandments were part of a book called the Torah, which was later called the Hebrew bible. If the Israelites followed these commandments, God would return them safely to Canaan. Historians hypothesized that it took them around 40 years t0 reach Canaan. Moses did not live through those years to see the promised land, but a new leader named Joshua took over to finish out the journey and bring the Israelites to Canaan.

(3 things the Israelites could have done differently)1.) I think that the Israelites should have taken their routo to Canaan into better consideration. The route that they took was so long and unnecessary. By reducing the length of their course, it would have saved them a lot of time, resources, and Moses might have lived to see the Promised Land.
2.) The second thing would be for them not to have fought the Canaanites. I know that they felt led by God to do this, but if they wouldn't have, they could all just live in peace. It would've probably been nicer as well to have new people to meet and maybe even repopulate with. 3.) Lastly, I think it would have made things run more smoothly with more strong leaders helping Moses lead the Israelites. Moses was extremely outnumbered by the Israelites that he was taking to Canaan. If there would have been more individuals helping him, as the people started getting impatient and frustrated, there would be more leaders to help and calm them down. |
